Middle English (1150-1500 AD)

Middle English consisted of a period in which an excessive overhaul of changes to the language were introduced. The primary points of emphasis were on pronunciation, grammar, and vocabulary - often through phonetics. During this time, French heavily influenced many English language concepts. From this, more than 10,000 words come from or are influenced by French alone - about 75 percent of which are still in circulation. The middle era of Middle English was when French was at its height of influence. Letters changed in appearance four times to which we see the most recent form being used today.
