Modern English (1500 AD-Pres.)

As we are aware, modern English is still coming up with new words and phrases to keep up with the current technological age. But at its roots - Shakespearian English, the very basis for American English, was relatively unchanged for at least a hundred years across the pond, but was still mildly influenced by French and more so Latin. Grammar was also beginning to change for the better and permanently, starting with the Renaissance in the late stages of  middle English (courtesy of Gutenberg's printing press) and finalized in the early portion of the new age. However, not only was English making its way to the New World, but to India and West Africa as well (along with certain European ports). Britain was beginning to colonize, which fully helped them become the greatest naval power over the Spanish Armada.
